I go way back to when there was a 'real' downtown, before the quad. I've found some pictures of old Santa Clara on the web. Good grief, Wilson's Bakery is closed!!? Seems like the city council members who tore the town down and developed the quad all profited greatly from the deal. Least that's what we all thought back then. I often remember how the old downtown looked. My favorite place was Bill's newstand, where i would buy all the latest comic books. My godmother and godfather owned the town's biggest bar -- Dergen's Corner. Back then children were allowed in bars, so I went in Dergen's regularly. Once in a while I'd get a sip of beer.
